Obituary for Charles D. Lang

Odessa Record - Lincoln County, Washington
September 4, 1924

C. D. Lang Funeral Was Held Friday Afternoon

Funeral services for C. D. Lang, one of the proprietors of the Davenport Furniture Store, who died Wednesday night of last week at his home in this city, were held at the Methodist Church here Friday afternoon, the Rev C. A. Hodshire officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Elijah Huffman, soloist, and a quartet, C. W. Jarvis, Jr., M. B. Jarvis, Jason Horwege and Claudius Horwege. Burial was at the Mondovi Cemetery, where Mr. Lang’s father and one of his brothers are buried. Pall bearers were George Shaw, Roy C. Fox, C. E. Myers, Henry Weidey, Leslie Rummer, Dr. W. C. Graham.

Charles D. Lang was born near Cincinnati, Iowa, March 25, 1871, and died at his home in Davenport, August 27, 1924. He was united in marriage to Miss Jessie McConnell at the McConnell home in Centerville, Iowa, on July 2, 1899. They immediately went to Salina, KS, where with the help of his wife, he engaged in the grocery business, which occupation was continued until five years ago when the family came to Davenport. While at Salina, their only son, Theodore Henry Lang, was born. When a young man, Mr. Lang united with the Methodist Episcopal church near Centerville, Iowa, and from that time has lived an earnest, consistent, Christian life. Soon after the arrival of the family at Davenport, all three united with the M E Church here, and have been active in both church and Sunday school work. The church and community extend to his sorrowing family sincere love and sympathy. The church has lost a loyal, willing worker, the community an honored, respected citizen. Within the past months since he became aware of his serious condition, he often expressed a wish to live for the sake of his family, but said he was ready to go if it were God’s will. Having taken for the rule of his life, the Golden Rule of Christ, Mr. Lang could say with Him, "Thy Will, not mine, be done."

Besides his wife and son, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. V. A. Lang, five sisters, Mrs. Nettie Heppe, of Reardan; Mrs. Alice Holman of Cheney; Mrs. Minnie Littell, Mondovi; Mrs. Avis Sypher, Tacoma; Mrs. Ida Mae Deissner, Spokane; and three brothers, L. M. Lang, Reardan; B. F. Lang and Willis E. Lang, of Spokane. All were in attendance at the funeral service as also were Mrs. Lang’s sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Byrd, Moberly, MO, and Mrs. Bertha McConnell and two sons, Eugene and Robert, of Centerville, Iowa, her sister-in-law, and Miss Christine McConnell of Davenport, a sister.

Hope this helps a little to clarify the mystery.
