Have you tried writing these folks? They have birth records for the period after 1880.

Now if he was born under another name, they would not have it recorded under the name you know.

You could also order this microfilm and view it at a local LDS Family History Center. These records would undoubtedly be organized by date, so if you believe his date of birth, that might pin him down. If his birth was recorded, that is, which was a legal requirement.
