I found a record on ancestry.com of the WWII draft registration for a Thomas Joseph Cinkovich, born 12/19/1881, who registered for the draft in Cumberland, Washington. That's not your person but could be related. He listed his birthplace as Udbina, Yugoslavia, a town that once was and is once again in Croatia, but was part of Yugoslavia at the start of WWII. It was also part of the Austrian Empire for a period of time. I also found his naturalization record in 1925, again in Washington state, and that's what he lists as his place of birth then, but on 12/20/1883. In both records he listed his occupation as coal miner.

If you know that there is a family conection with that person you may have the town they came from.
