Well, just got the mail, the Iowa state archives did NOT have a birth record for Wm Edward MORRISON either. I tried Appanoose County first with no luck.

Does anyone have history of Mystic, Iowa information? Around 1893, Wm's birth year, there apparently were 14 coal mines and 800+ people living in camps. That doesn't sound like conditions for good record keeping.

I believe if Wm's father was a miner, and died young, it could have been an accident at work. Is there a source for that? Charles William MORRISON would have died between 1893 and 1910 in Iowa, probably Appanoose county, probably earlier in that date range than later.
