ALFRED ALLEN, LOCAL PIONEER TAKEN BY DEATH
Former janitor at McKinley School Was Widely Known and Loved
Was 86

Alfred Allen, 86, resident of Centerville for more than half a century died at his home 932 S. 19th St. yesterday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. following a heart attack and old age. For many years he was janitor of the McKinley school until his retirement eight years ago.
He had been in and in ill health for the last 2 1/2 years and his condition became serious mr. after a xxxx three weeks ago today. He had been cared for by Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Carter for the last three years when his health failed.
Mr. Allen was born in Sweden, December 6, 1845 and came to this country directly to Centerville more than 50 years ago. He was a lifelong member of the first Lutheran Church. His wife died nine years ago. He is the last surviving member of his family.
He is survived in death by two sons, Aaron of Denver, Colorado, Elmer of Omaha Nebraska, three daughters, Mrs. Alma Almquist, Mrs. Luella Coon, both of Denver and Mrs. Victor Shellberg of Rockford, Illinois. One daughter preceded him in death three years ago. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two 30 p.m. at the first Lutheran Church with Rev. W. A. Bloom officiating.
