MRS. MARY CLOSE DEATH
Mother of Well Known Family
Plano, Apr. 8 – The death of Mrs. Mary Close occurred at Mystic Monday morning at 2 o’clock.
Mary Stark was born July 17, 1824, and was married to John H. Close August 19, 1846. They came to this county in the early fifties and settled in the Concord neighborhood where Mr. Close died August 10, 1873.
To this union were born eight children, two of these, Cornelia and Harriet, proceeded their mother to the better world some years ago and the six, Mary A. Cozad, Jerome, Ia; W. R. Close, Plano; Bethal Van Ness, Centerville; A. J. Close, Mrs. James Jennett at whose home she died and Emmeretta Cross of Mystic, all whom were at her bedside when death came, remain to mourn her loss.
Mrs. Close had fourteen grandchildren and all of them were present at her funeral which was held at the Concord church of which she had been a faithful member for 40 years. The serviced were conducted by Rev. Banker Wednesday, April 6th.

April 9, 1909The body of Mrs. Mary Close, one of the pioneer residents of Appanoose Co., was interred in Concord cemetery Tuesday at 3 p.m. Mrs. Close died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jas Jennet, of Mystic, after having passed her 85th milestone.
A most eloquent funeral oration was delivered by Rev. Banker of the M. E. church. A quartet also from Mystic, furnished beautiful music and many were the floral offerings, attending in a measure the high esteem in which Mrs. Close held. She was a member of the Concord Baptist church and a most excellent Christian woman.
