Jerry D. Owens

Jerry D. Owens, 84, of Centerville and formerly of Fairfield, died at 10:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at the Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center.

A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Friday at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2675, in Centerville. The body has been cremated.

Memorials can be made to the family.

Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa assisted with arrangements.

Mr. Owens was born Oct. 12, 1940, in Appanoose County, the son of Samuel Ray and Daisy Cline Owens. He married Phyllis Robinson Aug. 16, 1959.

Mr. Owens was a graduate of Livonia High School. He worked for the Chevrolet garage and Toyota dealership in Fairfield, and was a mechanic for the Iowa Department of Transportation in Fairfield and Centerville.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; seven children, Jerry Lee Owens of Marion, Jamie Sparks of Manchester, Jenny Hoover of Centerville, Jana Stevens of Seymour, John Owens and Joni Hurley both of Exline, Jolene Robinson of Centerville; special children, Gail Cordell, Don Miller, Charlotte Head; 22 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; two brothers, his twin, Larry Owens and Samuel Owens, both of Fairfield; and two sisters, Goldie Dwight and Patricia Ruggles, both of Centerville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-granddaughter; and three brothers, Charles "Bill," Ira "Frank" and Bob Owens.
