Edward Streepy, son of Edward and Delilah Freeland Streepy, was born Oct. 30, 1844, at Washington, Davies county, Indiana, and came to Iowa with his parents in a a covered wagon in 1858, at the age of 9 years. He grew to young manhood on his present farm. On Aug. 11, 1862, he enlisted in the Union army at the age of 17 years, and served until the end of the war. He spent 10 months in prison at Tyler, Texas. He was assigned to Co. I 36th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He consecrated his life to God in early manhood and was devout and steadfast in his faith to the end of his life. April 9, 1873, he was united in marriage to Miss Amanda Young of Unionville, Iowa, who preceded him in death June 28, 1910. To this union six children were born, Lora M. Stuckey of Iola, Kansas, Mrs. Cleffie(sp) McConnell of Mason City, Clyde McDowell, deceased at age of 3 years, Mrs. Nellie Caylor of Udell, Guy Streeper of Udell, and Miss Anna Streepy of Udell. Also surviving are six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He was the last of sixteen children, being survived by one half-sister, Mrs. Sarah Whisler of Udell. Funeral services were conducted from the M.E. Church at Unionville of which he was a long time member, Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1942, by the Rev. J.A. Wilson, the Rev. Floyd Dorris, and the Rev. Orlando Ogden. "When I Can Read My Titles Clear," "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing," and "In The Land of My Dreaming" were sung by Forrest Main of Moravia, Mrs. Charles Coffin of Moravia, accompanist. Burial was at Eaton cemetery, west of Unionville, with full military rites by the Iowa National Guard, and the American Legion. His passing turns the last page of the book of living Civil War veterans of Appanoose and perhaps many adjoining counties. Being 98 year's, one month, 13 days. God had spared him to experience the coming to Iowa from Indiana by covered wagon, spanning almost a century to witness present swift air travel. He was conscious to the end and had always enjoyed the progress of transition from one age to the other in which he had lived.
