Former Udell Banker Dies At Age 79
J.J. Taylor, 79, of five miles north of Centerville, died at his farm home at 8 p.m. Saturday after an illness of four months. He was critically ill for the last eight weeks. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church at Centerville and had lived at his present resident for the last nine years. He was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, June 3, 1858, the son of King and Asenath Taylor, and was one of a family of four children. John Judson Taylor was married to Miss Tina Elliott of Oswega, IL. They established their home in Clark county, Iowa, where he was superintendent of schools for many years. To this union four children were born. He came to Udell about 30 years ago, where he was engaged in the banking business in the Bank of Udell. After the bank closed he moved to the farm. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and one daughter, Mrs. Belle Whisler of Udell, who died about a year ago. He is survived by his wife, two sons, J.J. Taylor, Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif., and William of five miles north of Centerville; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Winter of New York city; one sister, Mrs. Ida Jones of Osceola, and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Miller Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Tuesday, in charge of the Rev. Mott R. Sawyers, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Haines cemetery north of Centerville.
