Death Calls Again
Mrs. Jane Wright Died Last Night at Her Home.
Mrs Jane F. Wright died last night at 9:00 o'clock at her home two and a half miles southwest of Centerville from illness dependent on old age, she being in her 75th year. The funeral services will be conducted at the Wright home by Reverend Edwards of Osceola at 11:00 o'clock a.m. tomorrow and internment will be made by the side of her husband in the Thomasson cemetery.
Jane F. Wright was born in Henry county, Virginia, December 13, 1826 and afterwards lived in Tennessee and Kentucky before coming to Iowa in 1847. She was married to E.R. Wright on March 12, 1847 in Kentucky and the same year moved to Davis county, Iowa, soon afterwards coming to Appanoose county where she has since resided. Her husband was injured at the Kindig coal mine in 1873 and died on August 29 of that year. Since then Mrs Wright has continued by the assistance of her children to operate the home farm. Her two sons W.L and J.R. (Jr) and her daughter Phoebe still live upon the home place and with these three other daughters survive her, viz: Mrs Mary Wright of Johns Township, Mrs. Sarah Swank of Udell and Julia Bartlet of St. John Kansas.
In early life Mrs. Wright was converted and united with the Baptist church, in which denomination she was a faithful and earnest worker until the infirmities of old age prevented such active work. She was a true Christian character in her home, the family altar was always maintained with a ferver and spirit that marked he Christian labors in early life.
The few remaining settlers of the county remember her well and will deeply mourn her death and extend their sympathies to her bereaved family. She has many relatives in the county and several living in Centerville, all of whom with many friends will attend the funeral tomorrow.
