DEATH OF JOHN DAILY
Well Known Citizen of South Centerville
Passes Away Last Night.

John Daily, one of the best known residents of South Centerville, died last night at 10:00 o'clock at his residence, 305 East Elm avenue aged 64 years 6 months 27 days. Funeral services
will be held at 10:00 a. m. tomorrow from St. Mary's Catholic church, conducted by Rev Richard Aid, and the remains will be laid to rest at Exline. The cause of his death was dysentery,
resulting in hiccoughs.
Mr. Daily was born in Kerry county Ireland, Jan. 22, 1837. He left his native land and came to the United States many years ago settling in Ohio where he lived for a few years. He then came
to Iowa and made his home in Caldwell township, this county, for sometime, and later removing to this city which was his residence for years previous to his death. He was in business in South Centerville, having a grocery on South Eighteenth Street.
When the war broke out Mr. Daily enlisted and went to the front with Company G, Thirty-sixth Iowa Infantry, of which T. M. Fee was captain. He was a good soldier and since the formation of the Grand Army of the Republic he has been a faithful member of that organization. He was a member of the Catholic church and was sincere in his religious beliefs as he was in ideas on all moral and secular questions. He had strong views regarding the liquor traffic and was not afraid to express them and show his sentiments by action. He held the respect of many friends.
A few weeks ago Mr. Daily was taken down with stomach and bowel troubles and in a short time was attacked with the hiccoughs which were very persistent. At times he seemed to improve but his troubles were too serious for medical science.
Surviving are Mr. Daily's wife and five children, three sons and two daughters.
These are Ren, Thurman, Charles, Fannie and Anna. They have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
