The following obituary appeared on the Wapello County website,
from the Ottumwa Courier newspaper dated 1 October 1934:

Mrs. Alta V. Walter, 34 years old, the wife of Clovie Walter, 1722 Mabel
street, died at her home Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock.

She is survived, besides her husband, by eight children, Imogene, Letha,
Violet, Catherine, Charles, James, Richard and Jackie all of Ottumwa; her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Elliott of Ottumwa; three brothers, Clarence, Luther,
and Leonard Elliott of Ottumwa; six sisters, Mrs Rilla Eddy of Centerville, Mrs.
Ruth McDowell, Mrs. Victoria Herrmann, Iona, LaRue, and Dorothy Elliott, all of
Ottumwa.

Short funeral services will be held at the Johnson funeral chapel at 2 p.m.
Tuesday and at 2:30 at the Finley Avenue Baptist church. The Rev. Luther Childs of Centerville will officiate, assisted by the Rev. C.V. White, pastor of the
Finley Avenue church. Burial will be made in the Shaul cemetery.
