April 8.—Last rites for Jesse Oren Beard, who passed away at his farm home Thursday morning were held from the Christian church here Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Beard who was in poor health for some time had made plans for his funeral service, and each preference was carried out accordingly.
Elder Everett Withrow, his friend since childhood days, was in charge of the service. The discourse was built around I Corinthians, chapter 15, as was the wish of the deceased.
A beautiful eulogy to the splendid life and character of Jesse was also given by
Mr. Withrow.
A ladies quartet composed of Miss Edna Withrow Mrs. Paul Caster, Donna and Letty sang “Shall We Gather at the River” a hymn Jesse loved to sing about his work, The service was closed with the old favorite, "No Night There”, and “Good Night and Good Morning”. Miss Nora Bratschi assisted at the piano.
There was an exceedingly lovely floral tribute from friends, neighbors and relatives, banked at each end of the beautiful silver metal casket.
Pallbearers were Claude Beard of Chicago, Merle Stroud, Homer Stroud, Leon Stone of Chicago, Everett Lloyd and Lewis Schnabel of Ames.
Interment was in the family lot near the church under the direction of the Johnson funeral home. The church was well filled with relatives and friends who came in spite of the inclement weather to pay their last respects to the deceased and sympathize with the grief-sticken wife, Ella, and the brother, E. J. Beard of Ames, who is now the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Among other relatives from a distance present for the funeral were: Mrs. E. J. Beard and daughters, Elizabeth J. and Helen, now Mrs. Lewis Schnabel of Ames, Ia., Claude Beard of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Stone and daughter, Marilyn, of Chicago, B. A.
