Joseph Baker
Joseph Baker was born at Sneedville, Tenn., April 30, 1845, and passed away at his home, two miles south of Unionville, Iowa, November 14, 1917, at the age of seventy-two years. He was united in marriage to Eliza Seal February 19, 1868. To this union were born nine children, six of whom are living, and with the wife survive him.
The family moved to their present home in Iowa, thirty-four years ago, where they have continuously resided. He was joyfully converted at the age of twenty-one years and began preaching at the age of twenty-five. He has
served a number of churches and was active in the ministry until about fifteen years ago, he was forced from active work by failing health. But his heart and testimony always carried the same interest and his sacrifice for the cause that was so dear to his heart was never wanting.
He early associated himself with the Baptist church, at Sneedville, Tenn., and has been an active member of a church of that faith ever since. He was a man of integrity and his convictions were so carefully formed that he could always be depended on for loyalty to truth, and righteousness. He has been an inspiration to young ministers and a tower of real strength to the church where he lived and worshiped.
The funeral services were conducted from the late home on Friday, November 16, 1917, at 10:00 o'clock a.m. by Rev. Luther Childs, assisted by Reverend Clemens, of Seymour. A large company of neighbors and friends of the family was present expressing their high regard for the deceased and genuine sympathy for the bereaved family.
