OBITUARY
(William Franklin Everman.)

The eldest child of Mickel and Abigal Everman was born in Russellville, Indiana, March 20 1845. Of a large family there are but four living. They are Mrs. Mary Blakesley and Mrs. Nancy Hughes of Centerville, Iowa; Mrs. Neaty Clay, Powell, S. Dakota; and Barton Everman, also of Centerville. In the fall of 1848, when the subject of this sketch was but three years old, he accompanied his parents to Agency,
Iowa. Five years later, or in his ninth year, he came to Appanoose county which place, with the exception of thirteen years which he spent in the west, has been his home.
In the year 1863 he enlisted in Company H., {8th} Iowa Cavalry Volunteers and served to the end of the war. During these two years he spent six months in Florence and Andersonville prisons. He also served his country in several positions of trust.
On December 25, 1876 Mr. Everman took as his bride Miss Melinda A. Hughes at Albia, Iowa to whose devotion and love much of his earthly success is due, and who preceded him to that shore from which no traveler returns but a few brief months. To their union nine children were born. Two having tried the realms of another world, the remaining are Mrs. Alma A. Stiles, of Pleasant Lake, N. Dakota; Clara, Gertrude B., Cora A., C. Henry, Madison W. of Mystic, Iowa; and John F. of Omaha, Nebraska.
Mr. Everman was an honored member of the Grand Army of the Republic and at one time a member of the Christian church. He was a loving husband,
an indulgent father and a hospitable neighbor. In all public matters he was greatly interested and was one o f our most thrifty citizens. The dark messenger came in the form of heart failure at 8 o'clock a. m. March 21 1910 and although it was a great shock, for he was apparently well, yet to those who knew him best not altogether unlooked for because he had been troubled with heart sickness for years. At date of death he had spent 65 years and one day on earth.
Besides the loved ones mentioned the deceased leaves many other relatives and a host of friends who mourn his departure To those who have assisted the bereaved loved ones, in any way, during this, their time of sorrow, I hereby express their thanks.
The interment was in Dale cemetery after a sermon by the writer and service by the G. A. R post in the church.
C. A. Field, Officiating Minister.
