Flossie Lemaster

Flossie Lemaster, daughter of Franklin P. and Jeanette (Hiner) Hamilton, was born in Monroe County on January 3, 1897 and passed away on September 1, 1970 at the Lake Mills Nursing Home in Lake Mills where she had been a resident for nine days following hospitalization at Buffalo Center, at the age of 73 years, 7 months, and 29 days.

She joined the Salem United Brethren Church and was baptized at the age of 18 and was very active at in this church which is located west of Moravia, Iowa. She later transferred her membership to the Methodist Church at Rockwell where the family moved to in 1944 and later to the Methodist Church in Thompson when the family moved there in 1948. She was a faithful worker in the WSCS at the Thompson United Methodist Church were she received her Life Membership pin.

Mrs. Lemaster taught country schools in Monroe County for five years prior to her marriage to Harley Ray Lemaster on May 5, 1920. To this union six children were born, all of whom survive.

Surviving are her husband, H.R. Lemaster; four sons, Darrell of Fort Worth, Texas; Vernon of Omaha, Nebr., Verlin of Buffalo Center; and Dale of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Gwendolyn) Chance of Lovilia and Mrs. Ray (Marlene) Oulman of Ventura; nineteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Jake Simbro of Glenwood, Mo., and Mrs. Edd DeHaii of Prairie City; besides a great host of other relatives, friends, and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harry, Homer, and Cass; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Thompson.Rev. Merlin J. Ackerson officiated and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
