Stephen .....
I posted a couple obits today that might interest you. Pretty sure not all of these Brophy's are in your Brophy family, but throwing them out for you (or any Brophy researcher) just in case.*Catherine Brophy Toole obit
*Thomas Brophy, died 1917
*Elizabeth Brophy, died 1899
*I added a 2nd obit to the one you posted for John Brophy, died 1898
*I added 2 additional obits to a previously posted obit for Thomas Brophy, died 1884 in a logging accident
--This might answer a question you have about Patrick Brophy moving West. It seems that if he was married with a family, the news article would have read differently:
>> from the Allamakee Journal, Wednesday, May 14, 1884 (Harpers Ferry Haps column); pg 2:"Mrs. Toole, of Chicago, is here spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. Brophy. Patrick Brophy, of Colorado, the son of Mrs. Brophy of this city, is back to his happy home once more after an absence of ten long years. Mr. B is intending to remain at home with his mother for the future, which we are glad to hear. Pat is the same jovial, whole-souled fellow as ever, always merry and full of glee."
--If you haven't already read it, the Anna (Brophy) Berry obit which is posted on the Clayton co. IAGenWeb Obit board, may give a few clues on how the different Brophy families are related. It answers the question of your Thomas Brophy being married to Mary Sweeney.
