Found some mentions of Brophy and Hinchon that might be yours in area newspapers.

Postville Review, Sept. 8, 1883. Taken from the Waukon Democrat;

"John Hinchon and Jas Pratt went to Chicago last Manday to purchase a new printing office outfit to take to Bridgewater, D.T., where John will start a Democratic paper and "Jim" will accompany him to do the mechanical work."

La Crosse Tribune And Leader Press, Nov. 17, 1922;

" An estate consisting of a house on Adams Street and a $2,500 mortgage in Minnesota is disposed of in the will of the late Mrs. Ellen Cain just filed with Register of Probate John Costly.
Mrs. Cain directs that a monument costing not more than $300 be erected over her grave. John Brophy, a brother, is named as executor of the estate.
Small bequests are provided for Mrs. Maggie Nestor and Mrs. Bridget Horihan, sisters of Mrs. Cain.
Two bequests of $500 each are made to the Rev. Dr. Robert Condon, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic church, for masses for the repose of the souls of Mrs. Cain's husband, son, father, mother and brother, Michael."

The La Crosse Tribune, Sept. 10, 1930, in an article describing a convention of some sort, possibly a union function;

" Brief talks were made by John Brophy, president of the Milwaukee pressman, who helped organize the La Crosse group in 1914..."

The La Crosse Tribune And Leader-Press, Aug. 17, 1938, in the Lansing column;

" Lansing, Ia. -(Special)- The Brophy property on Second street has been sold to John Brophy, grandson of the original owner. The present tenents, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Kolstad, will occupy a house adjacent to the cutting plant of the button company."

La Crosse Tribune And Leader-Press, July 19, 1939, in the Lansing column an article describing a social gathering of Kiwanis club members and their wives;

" Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Hufschmidt gave interesting talks of their trip east, which included the New York fair and places of historic interest. Both had the priviledge of using the free telephone service, the former talking to Mrs. Pauline Funke of La Crosse, his aunt, and the latter to her nephew, John Brophy of Lansing."

La Crosse Tribune And Leader-Press, Apr. 4, 1940, in the Lansing column;

" Mrs. L. T. Hufschmidt, Mrs. John Brophy and Joe Brophy visited John Brophy, a hospital patient at La Crosse Tuesday."

Further;

The 1930 Iowa Census Index shows;

Iowa, Allamakee Co., Paint Creek Twp. excluding Waterville town. (census roll 0640, enumeration district 3-17, family number 84, sheet number 4A)

Mary Hinchon, born abt. 1854, age abt. 76, with, Cornelius Hinchon, born abt. 1883, age abt. 47, and, William Hinchon, born abt. 1885, age abt. 45.

I could find nothing in Postville or La Crosse newspapers with regard to Mary Brophy or Mary Hinchon; Cornelius or William Hinchon, nor the other Hinchon children between the years 1860 and 1970. If they were living in Paint Creek Township any newspaper mentions would most likely be in the Waukon papers which I do not have access to at this time.

There is a mention of Jno. Hinchon as superintendent of Lansing schools in the "Past and Present of Allamakee County Vol. 1, by E. M. Hancock. A report of the proceedings of the Allamakee Co. board of supervisors in the Postville Review of Jan. 21, 1874, notes the approval of a bond for him in the capacity of County Superintendent. I also noted a payment by the board to John W. Hinchon in the capacity of school superintendent. (see the following.)

Another item that may be of interest is the obituary and accolades for John William Hinchon that appears in the Kossuth County Advance, Algona, Iowa, Nov. 27, 1924, and takes up about a third of the front page of that newspaper, much to large for me to transcribe here. Just the following;

Born Ireland June 24, 1846. While an infant he with his parents emigrated to America settling at Watertown, Mass., later coming to Allamakee County, Iowa, where John grew up on a farm. He attended the state univ. at Iowa city. Had a brother who served as superintendent of schools in Allamakee county and John succeded him. He also taught school in Texas. He returned to Allamakee county and for a time was principal of Lansing schools. He then bought the Waukon Democrat newspaper. He also established the Bridgewater Journal at Bridgewater, SD., but that venture was not a success and he never lived at that place. In 1886 he purchased the Algona Courier and edited it for 30 years until sold in 1916. On May 18, 1874 He married Jane Hastings, she died 1888, there were five children of which three survive him, namely; Mrs. W.L. Mitchell, W.D., Mrs. R.E. Saunders, James died at 20, and Jennie died at 13.

If you want the whole front page I can scan it to a file and then attach it to an e-mail. I will need an e-mail address to send it to. I cannot attach it here.

The "History of Winneshiek and Allamakee Counties, Iowa, by A. E. Alexander, Pages 512-513 has the following that may be of interest;

" Edward McGough, P.O. Waukon; farmer sec. 29; son of Barney and Catherine McGough; was born in Canada in 1839. His parents moved to Winnebago county, Illinois, when he was a small boy, and in 1855 they came to Paint Creek tp., where his father still lives, his mother having died in 1868. Mr. M. was married to Miss Julia Hinchon, in 1864. She was born in Ireland. They resided in Paint Creek tp. till 1876, when he moved to his present farm of 280 acres, which is well improved and among the best farms of the township. Their children are Birnet, James E., Thomas, John, Ella, Katie and Julia. He is a member of the Catholic church."

Whew ! I hope you find something of interest in all this.
