My Lois Hoyt has been a challenge. My only data was that my ggg-gm Sally Hoyt (dau of Lois) was "one of 12 daughters", as written in a book's bio sketch of her son in MN. No sibling's names of Sally's were given. Through "luck and scratching" I have now found two sisters, Rachel Hoyt Titus Hazen (in 1850 census Lois is with her) and prob. Eliza (in Allamakee). Rachel,by the way, is listed as dau of Beriah and Lois Hoyt.
I haven't proven Beriah is the father of my Sally Hoyt, but the name Beriah is used in descendants of Rachel and Sally....and Beriah is listed in 1810, 1820, 1830 censuses with many daughters in each enumeration, and is in the same towns as the above girls.
Yes, I believe Eliza is Lois' daughter. Her obit info agrees with my info on Hoyt family being in Burlington VT in 1810, then in Malone NY by 1820/1830 censuses, and in Conneaut OH by 1837. I have seen the obits on the Allamakee site now, and have several more clues...all the pieces are fitting so far.
I did find the Moulthrop family a few miles SE of Postville, in Hardin, Clayton Co IA in 1860. (Lois not with them tho.) Hardin was also a town that other known family members lived....descendants of Sally Hoyt above.
Thank you for your responses, and thank you for checking the newspaper for my Lois.
Margaret
