1853 resources

WILLIAMS

I have a g-g-grandfather, Thomas Williams, who is reported to have died in Lansing in 1853 of Asiatic Cholera.
What cemeteries existed in 1853? Was there a newspaper in the area which might have an obit? Are there any death records that go back that far? The family moved to Minnesota shortly after his death, and they hadn't been in Lansing long before his death. I would appreciate any help that might steer me to sources of information. Thanks!
