brothers Thomas and Patrick Farley

I'm trying to get more information about two brothers of my greatgreatgrandfather, Thomas and Patrick Farley, who emigrated from Ireland in the 1840s and settled in Allamakee County around 1855, Thomas in Union Prairie, Patrick in Lafayette.

The last mention I can find of Thomas is in the 1880 census, with his son William and near his sons James, John, and Robert. I don't see them in the 1890 or 1900 census, am guessing Thomas died between 1880 and 1890 (he was born about 1817).

Patrick was living with his son Peter and son-in-law Francis Duffy in 1870. Patrick reportedly moved to O'Brien County in 1872, where he died in 1874. His son and son-in-law died of pneumonia in 1878.

Any suggestions about how to learn more about these families would be much appreciated. I'd particularly like to find death records for Thomas and Patrick to confirm their parents' names.
