John S Peterson c1870 Centre Twp

My GGGrandfather John S Peterson brought his family to Lansing about 1867. His wife was Caroline. Children are Charles b 1867. Alma b 1861 and Jennie b abt 1864. I found them, I think, in Centre Twp except The head of house hold is listed as E. S. Peterson. All the ages fit except E. S. He is listed as 31 and Caroline is 39. Is there a name starting with E that is the same as John? Is there a possibility thet E.S died there and Caroline remarried a John S Peterson? They show up in the 1880 census in Rock Island Co, IL as John 49, Caroline 49 Alma 19 and Charles 13. Is there a cemetery in Centre Twp that Swedes used more than others? Thanks in advance for any ideas someone might have.
