My great aunt Louise Minert (Kelly) was born in Waukon in 1876 and is in the graduates list for Waukon High School for 1895. I am trying to track down her exact date of birth, which was almost certainly in the last half of June, based on marriage and census data I have found. There is a small possibility it was June 14 based on a date given where the year is mistaken as 1879.
I know she attended a Saturday Normal school in Chicago in 1898 and taught for 5 years in Austin MN probably from Fall 1899 to Spring 1904.
It is reported in her obituary announcement that she taught for 2 years in Waukon before going to Austin. This teaching would fit either Fall 1895 to Spring 1897 or Fall 1896 to Spring 1898. The Waukon School district tells me that they have records for the period, but can not spare people to look.
I would like to clarify which pair of years she worked and learn whether her birthday is given in the records. I am also curious if she took a year of normal (teachers) school after high school and before teaching. She later taught music and art and those were classes she took in Chicago.
Is there anyone in the area who would like to go through these records and share what they find?
