Hi
Robert, I continue to work on the Sedish side of my family tree and wonder if our trees intertwine!
My grandfather was John A. Ahlstrom (b 1873)and he had two siblings (twins) named Ola and Elna (b. 1869); all were born in Southern Sweden near the town of Ystad. Their parents were named Anders and Anna. The two brothers, John and Ola immigrated to America in 1892 and 1893 respectively. They both settled just west of Minneapolis, MN.
Ola settled with his young Swedish bride (Hannah Monson) near Swede Grove in Meeker Co., MN. There they raised a family of 8 children: Arthur, Edwin Rudolph, Adolph Gustave, Minnie Carolyn, Albert Julius, Mabel Victoria, Hazel Olive Selma and Melvin Allen. All of these family members are dead.
My grandfather, John A. Ahlstrom, settled in western Hennepin Co, MN. He married Emma Carolina Lindahl in 1905 and they had six sons: Andrew, Albert, Adolph, Axel, Arvid and John (my Father). The Mother, Emma Carolina, died in April of 1920 during the flu epidemic leaving John Sr. with six sons, the youngest was only five. John Sr. never remarried and he managed to raise a fine family of sons. He died of cancer in the mid 1940s; and now, all of his children have died. Most of his descendents (like myself) have remained in the Minneapolis area.
Despite much research, we have been unable to make any connections back to Sweden. We have assumed that the Ahlstrom name may be the military name meaning "alder tree by the stream" but we are uncertain.
Does any of this info fit with your family tree?
Thanks for your time and consideration. ~ Jeanie
