Diana Eickelberg

Diana L. Eickelberg, 52, of rural Decorah, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at her home following a battle with cancer. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 19, at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon, Iowa, with Pastor Judy Scheer officiating. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Diana Lynn was born August 12, 1953, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Jacques and Norma (Anderson) Prange. She grew up in Waterloo and graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1971. She attended the University of Northern Iowa and Hawkeye Technical Institute for medical transcription training. Diana worked at St. Francis Hospital and then as an administrative clerk for Northwestern Bell and US West in Waterloo. While at US West she met Dean Eickelberg and the two were married September 22, 1979. They moved to rural Decorah and Diana worked as an administrative secretary at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon and also served as an EMT. More recently she worked for several years as a dispatcher for the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Department.

Diana was a member of the speakers bureau for NW Bell while in Waterloo. Since moving to northeast Iowa, she has been a Brownie Troop leader and involved with both the Upper Iowa and Winneshiek County Saddle Clubs. She was an active member of Salem United Church of Christ, currently serving as an officer in the Women’s Fellowship and formerly as custodian. She was an active outdoors person, enjoying canoeing, camping, and taking walks, and she loved riding and raising horses. She was a talented cook, an avid reader, and a creative person with crafts involving sewing, quilting, or painting. She also enjoyed raising flowers and scrapbooking. Her passion was her family and she loved to both follow and participate in activities with her husband and children.

Survivors include her husband Dean of Decorah; four children, Heidi (David) Miller of Indianola, Iowa, Danny, currently attending Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids, and Allison and Robyn, both at home; three grandchildren, Kaylee, Hannah, and Brooklynn; her mother, Norma Behrens of Bentonville, Ark.; three sisters, Debbie (Jim) Neisen of Decatur, Ark., Beckie (Daniel) Scates of Bentonville, and Tammie (Brian) Strachan of Centerton, Ark.; a brother, Todd (Denise) Prange of Springfield, Mo.; her father’s wife, Nancy Prange of Waterloo; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father Jacques, and her mother’s husband, Charlie Behrens.

Casketbearers were Danny Eickelberg, Curt Jones, Charlie Coffey, J. Schmitz, Chad O’Malley, and Carl King.
