Lulu Livingood

Lulu I. Livingood, 92, of Waukon, died Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, November 21, at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Amy Perkins officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Lulu Isabelle was born August 6, 1913, in rural Postville, Iowa, the daughter of George Benjamin and Viola (Gordanier) Leet. Lulu graduated from Waukon High School in 1930 at the age of 16 1/2, so she had to wait until she was 18 to get her teaching certificate, which was issued on her birthday. She taught a year at Myron Rural School and then two years at her home Cherry Valley No. 7 Rural School.

June 27, 1936, she married Byron Roland Livingood at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Lulu and Byron farmed near Myron from 1936 until 1943 and then near Rossville from 1943 until 1966. They retired and moved to Waukon in 1966.

Lulu was a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church and its ladies groups as well as the Waukon Senior Citizens. She enjoyed collecting four-leaf clovers, poems, and scenic pictures, particularly of eagles. She also liked going to auctions, playing cards, and working word-find puzzles. Lulu and Byron enjoyed attending several reunions at the Little Brown Church.

Survivors include a son, Willis (Marlene) Livingood of Postville; a daughter-in-law, Shirlee Livingood of Waukon; three grandchildren, Bryan and Brent (Emily) Livingood and Barbara (John) Bahr; and a great-grandson, Tyler Bahr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Byron, who died in 1968; a son, Clifford Lee Livingood; three sisters, Ethel Paulsen, Mildred Leet, and Marjorie Waldron; a brother, Albert Leet; and two infant great-grandchildren, Joshua and Miranda Bahr.

Casketbearers were Barb, John, and Tyler Bahr and Bryan, Brent, and Emily Livingood.
