Barbara E. Shaffer, Townsend, died Tuesday, September 6, 2005, from cancer. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 17, at the United Methodist Church in Townsend. Cremation followed with burial at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Maddock, N. D.

Barbara was born October 6, 1941, in Waukon, to Dorothy and Delbert Fiet.

She married Neil Shaffer January 6, 1962, in Waukon.

Barbara was a triplet, and was loved by all of her family and many friends. Barb and Neil owned and operated Big Sky Floral and Electronics. She was an active member of the First Methodist Church, secretary to the rural fire department, and the first lady president of the Townsend Chamber of Commerce. She was a charter member of the Broadwater County Lions Club, and was the current president of that club, and a past zone chairman. She had received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest award one can receive in the Lions Club. She was a member of other organizations as well.

Barb loved to read, to quilt, to take walks, and she loved their dog Sam. She was extremely loving and generous to all who knew her. She will be missed, but remembered lovingly. She was an amazing lady in all that she did and in her struggle with cancer.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Neil; her mother, Dorothy Fiet of Cedar Rapids; Lorrayne Rudish of Marion; David (Gretta) Fiet of Rockford, Ill.; Janice (Marvin) Smith of Oxford, Iowa; her mother-in-law, Jean (Alvin) Shaffer of Harvey, N. D.; sisters-in-law, Darlene (Robert) of Cedar Rapids, Bonnie Schultz of Lakeland, Minn., Judy (Larry) of Townsend, Shelley (Marty) Gustafson of Kasson, Minn., and Brenda (Marc) Rogelstad of Boardman, Ore.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Delbert Fiet, and father-in-law, Alvin Shaffer, as well as her brothers-in-law, James Schultz and Frank Ruddish.
