Freda Roggen
Freda Roggen, 100, of Waukon, Iowa, died Saturday, September 24, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Memorial services were held Sunday, September 25 at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. Inurement will be at a later date in Morrison, Ill.
Freda was born May 21, 1905, in Morrison, the daughter of John and Johanna (Burhman) Voss. She graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa, with a BA in education and taught school for several years in Sheldon and Boyden, Iowa. Freda was married to Art Roggen, and following his death in 1957, she moved to Waukon where she served as social welfare director for Allamakee County for many years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its ladies organizations. Freda stayed very active and enjoyed bowling, swimming, playing bridge, and was known for her knitting.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Sally Roggen of North Palm Beach, Fla.; two granddaughters, Tammy Roggen of Lake Park, Fla., and Jill (Marc) Papageorge of Pleasanton, Calif.; and three great-grandsons, Nikolas, Andreas, and Matthew Papageorge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art, a son, Norvan J. Roggen, four brothers, and two sisters.
Memorials may be made in Freda’s name to the ALS Association and sent to: Tammy Roggen, 803 Sun Terrace Court, Lake Park FL 33402-1186.
