Donald F. Klauke

Donald F. Klauke, 68, of Dorchester, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, in his home after an illness with brain cancer. Services were held Monday, July 18, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church-Hanover. Burial was in the church cemetery. Father Gene Wolf, Father Jerry Blake, and Father Joe Schneider officiated the mass. Arrangements were by Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Therese of Decorah; a son, Fred of Davenport; and a brother, Tom of Mountain, Wis.

Donald Klauke

Donald F. Klauke, 68, Dorchester, Iowa, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at his home after a battle with brain cancer. Funeral services were held Monday, July 18, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hanover. Fr. Jerry Blake, Fr. Gene Wolf, Fr. Joe Schneider, Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg, Fr. Gary Krapfl, Fr. Del Malin, and Fr. Robert Altmann officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Don was born February 16, 1937, in Evanston, Ill., the son of Fred and Alice (Weber) Klauke. He attended schools in Chicago, Ill., La Crosse, Wis., Dubuque, Iowa, and Collegeville, Minn.

He married Mary Therese Blake on June 11, 1976, at St. Pat’s in Cedar, Minn. Don was a farmer, worked for Catholic Charities and also served as the director for Rural Life for Archdiocese of Dubuque.

Don enjoyed music and playing the piano and organ as well as being active in choir. He also liked fishing and visiting with his family and friends. He was active in the National Campaign for Sustainable Agriculture, National Catholic Rural Life Conference, Churches’ Center for Land and People, Land Stewardship Project, Northeast Iowa Community Action Board, and the Iowa Catholic Conference Social Concerns Committee.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Dorchester; his children, Fred and Jana Klauke of Davenport, Iowa, and Therese Klauke and Allen Vang of Decorah; and one sibling, Tom (Joan) Klauke of Mountain, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Alice.

Casketbearers were Mike Klauke, Francis Blake, Con Blake, Mike Blake, John Blake, Dan Blake, Jason Kotek, and Travis Thornton.
