Rites Held For Carl Martens

Funeral services were held for Carl Martens, 36, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Martens, at the Schutte Funeral Home on December 26 with Rev. F. R. Ludwig officiating. Burial was made in the Postville cemetery.

Carl Martens passed away near Riverside, California on December 12. He was serving with the army at the time of his death.

Carl Richard John Martens, son of Carl Martens and Ella Mecklenberg Martens, was born September 26, 1912 at Postville, and departed this life December 12, 1948 near Riverside, California, aged 36 years.

Carl spent most of his life in the Postville vicinity until about six years ago. He enlisted in the service of his country on July 7, 1942 and was discharged on January 5, 1946. He re-enlisted in June of 1946 and was in the service of his country at the time of his death.

Carl is survived by his father, Carl Martens of Lansing; four brothers, John of Ossian; Harvey of Lansing; Harlan and Leonard of Riceville; one sister, Dilles, Mrs. Herbert Sass of Lansing; two half-brothers, Rudie of Farmersburg, and Walter of Houston, Texas, and one half sister, Melinda, of Milford, Michigan.

Carl was preceded in death by his mother, one brother, Harley, one sister, Edith and half brother, Wilbert.
