Mrs. Carl Martens, 55, Passes Away Saturday
Funeral services are being held here this afternoon at the Schutte Funeral Home for Mrs. Carl Y. Martens, 55, who passed away Saturday at her home near Lansing. The Rev. F. R. Ludwig will officiate and interment will be in Postville cemetery.
As Ella Mecklenburg, she was born April 28, 1887, the daughter of Carl and Maria Pfeil Mecklenburg in Clayton county. She was first married to Mike Judy and to this union one son, Rudolph, was born. Later, January 3, 1910, she was united in marriage at Elkader by the Rev. C. H. Franke with Carl Y. Martens of Postville and to them eight children were born, of whom two preceded their mother in death. Mrs. Martens resided in this community throughout her lifetime.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Y. Martens, the following seven children: Rudolph Martens, John C. Martens, and Leonard Martens of Postville, Private Richard C. Martens, Camp Hood, Texas, Harvey Martens and Dillies (Mrs. Herb Sess) of Lansing, and Harlan Martens of Waterloo; three step-children, Melinda (Mrs. Harold Richman, Keego Harbor, Mich.), Walter Martens, Houston, Texas, and F. Wilbur Martens of Oelwein, as well as five grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
Two children, Edith and Harley Martens, preceded her in death.
