WEBB WASHINGTON BROOKS 1870-1954

Webb Washington, son of Melvina Webb and Cyrus Marion Brooks, was born on November 10, 1870 at Waterloo, Iowa. At an early age the family moved to Denver, Colorado, where the mother died when he was nine years old. As a young man he studied to be a pharmacist and practiced that profession for over 55 years.

On April 19, 1891, he was married to Emma Laughlin of Postville, who passed away in 1945. Three children were born to them: Ruth, (Mrs. Ray R. Douglass), Postville, Iowa; Walter Vance, who died in 1916 at Corning, Iowa; and Robert Keith, who lives in Des Moines.

Mr. Brooks is survived by one daughter, one son, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He passed away quietly May 21, 1954, at the home of his son, 1500 Douglas Ave., Des Moines, where he had made his home since 1946. Burial was at Corning.

The surviving grandchildren are: Betty May Douglass (Mrs. Jay Jansen) Pomona, California; Darlene Ruth Douglass, (Mrs. Ed D. Couto) Levittown, Long Island; Barbara Jeanne Brooks (Mrs. O. A. Brynie) Houston, Texas; Robert K. Brooks, Jr., serving in the U. S. Navy, and Jon Edward Brooks, Des Moines. The great-grandchildren are Douglass and Edward Couto, New York; and Alan and Christine Brynie of Houston, Texas.
