His family was with him during his long illness and his last days in ICU and Hospice. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lloyd Raymond Kolsrud was born February 21, 1919, the son of Ben H. and Hulda (Hunstad) Kolsrud, on the family farm in Paint Creek Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville. Lloyd lived on the family farm until he graduated from Waterville High School in 1938. He moved to the Quad Cities where he worked at the Rock Island Arsenal until Uncle Sam called him to service during World War II. He served his country from 1942 to 1945 with the 23rd General Hospital as a Combat Medic, beginning in Africa to Anzio Beachhead and Cassino and later from the Northern Italy and Southern France battlefields. After being discharged in December 1946, he was elected to the office of Clerk of District Court, Allamakee County, Iowa.

Lloyd married Hazel Quanrude March 16, 1947, at Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa. They had two children, Barry and Kaye. He moved to Muscatine in 1977 and served as Court Administrator for Muscatine County for five years, retiring in 1982. He and Hazel were members of Zion Lutheran Church until 2001 when they moved to North Carolina. They are now members of Our Savior Lutheran Church. A memorial service was held there May 28, 2005.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel; one son, Barry (Connie) of Iowa City, Iowa; Kaye (William) Sebastyn of Waynesville, N. C.; one grandson, Finn, of St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn.; a brother, Bernard (Lorna) Kolsrud of Waukon, Iowa; a sister, Jean (Charles) Wiedenmann, of Monona, Iowa; two sister-in-laws, Palma Quandahl of Des Moines, Iowa, and Ursula Quanrude of Waukon; a brother-in-law, Metro Kowalishen; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Caryl (Elmer) Hager and Lila Kowalishen; a brother, John (Betty) Kolsrud of Los Altos, Calif.; two brother-in-laws, Nels Quandahl and Harold Quanrude; a sister-in-law, Vivian Quanrud; and two nephews, LaVerne Quanrude and Steven Kolsrud.

Lloyd loved life and kept his happy spirit during his long illness. He enjoyed genealogy, fishing, golf, Hawkeye sports, and most of all, being with his family and was always in charge of special occasions. His pride and joy was his grandson, Finn, and spent many happy Hawkeye football games and orchestra programs with him. He will be missed by those whose lives he touched. God bless Lloyd’s memory.
