Mrs. SIMON (Lydia L. Goeke) Becker GROTEGUT
Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. at Salem Reformed Church for Mrs. Simon Grotegut. The Rev. Mr. Walter Clausing will be officiating minister and burial is in Salem Reformed cemetery with Martins in charge.
Mrs. Grotegut died Monday, Sept. 10, at the Good Samaritan center in Cresco. She had been in poor health for some time and a patient at the home for three weeks.
Mrs. Grotegut was born Dec. 18, 1875 in Ludlow township and was the daughter of Louis Goeke and Louisa Hager Goeke. She was educated in the local schools and lived in Allamakee County all of her life except for a short time when she lived in Wisconsin.
She married Simon Grotegut who preceded her in death. Survivors are three sons, Louis Becker of California, Harvey Becker of Madison, Wis., and Leslie Becker of Milwaukee, Wis. Also, one daughter, Mrs. Estella Reynolds of Madison. A son Harold, preceded her in death.
Other survivors are 14 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. There are no living brothers or sisters.
- Submitter's notes: Lydia was married first to Simon Becker on May 2, 1895. He was born September 14, 1850, and died August 17, 1934, Allamakee County. She married Simon Henry Grotegut on September 24, 1936 at the Third Presbyterian church in Dubuque, Iowa, according to the Dubuque County, Iowa Courthouse Marriage Register 25, Page 319 . Her husband Simon Grotegut died July 20, 1949 and is buried at Salem West Church Cemetery, Allamakee County, Iowa.
