MRS. GROTEGUT, 98, DIED DECEMBER 24
Last rites for Mrs. Fred Grotegut are set for 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 27, at Salem Evangelical and reformed church with Martin's funeral service in charge. The Rev. Mr. Walter Clausing will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Roland Grotegut, Eugene Grotegut, Irwin Henning, Robert Heins, Julian Hanson and Reuben Herman.
Mrs. Grotegut, who was 98 years old, died Dec. 24 after a four and a half year illness. Born Sept. 4, 1863, in Allamakee county, she had lived here and in Winneshiek county during her near-century-long life. Her parents were Frederick and Caroline Stock.
She was married March 23, 1887 in Allamakee county to Fred Grotegut, who preceded her in death. They had lived in Winneshiek county after their marriage. The children are Mrs. Theodore (Emma) Henning, Postville; Mrs. Elmer (Mary) Herman, Waukon; Mrs. Lydia Lundt, Postville; Mrs. Victor (Mable) Heins, West Union; John Grotegut, Postville; Simon Grotegut, Waukon; Albert Grotegut, Postville.
There are 29 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild in the family circle. A brother, Ed Stock, Waukon, also remains.
Educated in the local schools, Mrs. Grotegut was a member of Salem Reformed church.
