Former Publisher Passed Away Dec. 20
Sam Hoesly, 81, former co-publisher of the German-language Iowa Volksblatt here in Postville, passed away last Friday in his home in Monroe, Wisconsin.
He was an uncle of Vern Brouillet of this city, his first wife being the former Edna Brouillet of Frankville.
Mr. Hoesly came to Postville in May, 1908, with Paul Ronneburger when they bought the newspaper from the late Gustav Dietsch. They continued as partners until June, 1914, when Mr. Hoesly sold his half-interest to Wm J. Klingbeil, who had learned his trade under him in Wisconsin. In 1918 Mr. Ronneburger sold his half-interest in the German Newspaper to Klingbeil, who immediately discontinued the German paper and started publication of the Postville Herald.
In the latter years of his life, upon retirement as a printer, Mr. Hoesly was engaged in the growing and culture of gladioli.
