Elliott Heusman, 28, Passes Away Friday After Brief Illness

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in St. Paul's Lutheran church for Elliot Heusman, 28, who passed away at his home east of Postville Friday morning following a several months' illness. He had been a resident of this community throughout his lifetime and the overflow attendance and the profuse floral offerings at the funeral service attested to his popularity and the sympathy going out to the bereaved family. The Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig conducted the services and interment was in Postville cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Clinton Lammert, Willard Meyer, Lyle Gunderson, Lloyd Schroeder, Willard Sander and Leonard Thoma.

Honorary pallbearers were James Sorenson, Lowell Fox, Roy Duwe, Arnold Cassell, Clarence Schave, James A Gregg, Carl Althouse, Roger Pearson, Burnell Anderson, Leo Foels, Gale Welzel and Willis Suckow. The flower girls were Marjorie Sander, Juanita Fox, Marion Schroeder, Rose Marie Ruckdaschel, Dorothy Althouse, Arlene Schultz, Inez Duwe, Joan Baltz, Joan Schultz and Ione Winter.

Elliot Cevert William Heusman was the son of Fred and Malinda Meyer Heusman. He was born in Grand Meadow township on March 15, 1918, and attended Postville schools, graduating from high school here in 1935.

He was united in marriage with Verla Mae Pixler on January 17, 1939 and to this union were born three children, Eugene, Shirley Jean and Marilyn Diane, who with the wife survive his passing.

Also surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heusman, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. His father and one brother, LaVern, preceded him in death.

Mr. Heusman was a lifelong member of St. Paul's church and during the rebuilding program served as caretaker of the church property. For a time he operated a filling station in Postville; later he was in the employ of the Allamakee-Clayton Electric Cooperative, and only last spring purchased the farm of his mother east of town which he operated until his final illness.
