Mrs. ROSS (Myra Mae Washburn) KOONTZ 1868-1947

The body of Mrs. Ross Koontz, 79, was brought to Waukon Monday from Grand Rapids, MI, where her death occurred Saturday afternoon. On March 8 she sustained a fractured hip, followed later by a stroke from which she failed to recover.

As Myra Mae Washburn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Washburn, she was born in Pleasant Prairie, WI, 30 Nov 1868. When 19 years of age the family came to Rossville to make their home. About 60 years ago her marriage to Ross Koontz took place in Waukon and Rossville continued to be their home until 1918 when they and daughter Clara went to Grand Rapids to reside. Mr. Koontz preceded her in death in June 1946.

Surviving are four sons and two daughters: Earl, Curtis, Mrs. Albert Elliott (Neva) and Clara Koontz of Grand Rapids, Sidney of Traverse City, and Lloyd of Oviedo, FL. There are seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Koontz, Clara and Sidney Koontz accompanied the body to Waukon. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at Martin's funeral home by Rev. A. H. Grossheim, followed by burial in the cemetery at Rossville.

Pall bearers were John Hancock, James Barlow, Alfred Pederson, Dare Walters, Edgar Deal and Roy Palmer.
