ROSS KOONTZ 1860-1946

The body of Ross Koontz, 85, will arrive here Wednesday morning from Grand Rapids, Mich., where his death occurred Sunday afternoon at the home of his son Earle.

Mr. Koontz was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Koontz of Rossville, where he was born October 26, 1860. In his young manhood he was employed in his father's store at Rossville, later going to Grand Rapids, Mich., where he had since resided.

On June 2, 1888 his marriage to Myra Washburn took place. She survives him with their four sons, Sidney, Traverse City, Mich.; Lloyd, Oviedo, Florida; Earl and Curtis, Grand Rapids, Mich. The latter's wife was formerly Faye Watkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Watkins of Waukon.

Also left to mourn are two sisters, Clara Koontz and Mrs. Nevah Elliott, Grand Rapids, and a half-brother, A. A. Koontz of Rossville. There are seven grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday afternoon at Martins funeral home, conducted by the Rev. A. Grossheim. Burial will take place in the Rossville cemetery, with the following pall bearers; Roy Palmer, James Barlow, Ora Mitchell, Edgar Deal, Roy Klees and John Hancock.

The full name of Ross Koontz 1860-1946 was Moses Andrew Ross Koontz. He was the son of Andrew Fieldman Koontz I and Clara M. Ross. Moses was better known as “Ross Koontz”. According to the Dale Woodmansee Cemetery Records for the Rossville Cemetery and also family records contributed to Allamakee County by the late Sidney “Keith” Koontz, Ross was born October 29, 1860 not October 26 as listed in the obituary for Ross Koontz.

Another error in the obituary for Ross Koontz is in the section where it reads “Also left to mourn are two sisters” but this should read “daughters”. His daughters were Clara Margaret Koontz and Nevah Washburn (Koontz) Elliott. Both daughters were living in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the time of their father’s death.
