Gramma Bridget Rea who celebrated her 100th birthday Feb. 1st last, sank into her eternal sleep on Monday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Ryan, in Union Prairie Township. Her health had gradually failed the past summer, but her mind was clear and bright to the last. She was free, too, from infirmaties of age, even recovering in a measure from the severe effects of a fractured hip received in a fall a year ago. She was a constant reader of current news and neighborhood happenings and was witty, bright, and cherry to her very last days. Mrs. Rea was born in County Cork, Ireland, and came to America 70 years ago and ten years later to Allamakee, which has since been her home. Her husband [William Rea] died a number of years ago, and their surviving children are Mrs. John Ryan of Union Prairie; and John and Jerry Rea of Pierre, South Dakota. Another daughter, Mrs. Ryan of Montana, died last spring. The funeral will be held at West Ridge Church, probably on Thursday.
