Services Held For Willard Schutte, Prominent Postville Businessman

Funeral services for Willard Schutte were held in the Community Presbyterian Church, on Monday, April 28, 1969, at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Dick Harberts officiating. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Willard Schutte was born September 14, 1910, the son of Louis and Elizabeth Weihe Schutte, in Postville, Iowa, and passed away April 25, 1969, at the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, at the age of 58 years, seven months and 11 days. His entire life was spent in the Postville community.

He attended the Postville Public School and graduated with the class of 1928. He attended Coe College, Cedar Rapids, and the Worsham College of Mortuary Science, Chicago, Illinois, from which he graduated in 1934. He joined his father in the retail furniture business in 1931 and entered the funeral profession in 1934.

He was united in marriage to Leta Dieckman on August 25, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois.

Willard had a devoted interest in the community and civic affairs of Postville. He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, and served four terms as an elder. He was also chairman of the church trustees during the building of the educational wing. He served as Post Township Clerk for many years until his death. He was a charter member of the Postville Kiwanis Club and served as its first secretary-treasurer and later as president. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Postville State Bank.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elizabeth, who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Leta; a son, David, of Postville; a daughter, Ann (Mrs. Joseph Swalek), of Rochester, Minnesota; a brother, Paul, of Postville, four grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
