Cluett C. Searls
Funeral services for Cluett C. Searls were held Tuesday, April 21, 1981 at 10:00 a.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, Reverend Dennis E. Morey officiated. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Cluett C. Searls, son of Burton and Mae (Moore) Searls, was born February 22, 1899 at Chatsworth, Iowa. He passed away April 18, at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.
He graduated from the Clear Lake High School in 1916, and served in the U. S. Infantry during WW I. February 22, 1920 he was married to Leona M. Collier. To this union three children were born.
At the age of nine he began working for the Milwaukee Railroad as a messenger. He continued with the railroad until his retirement in 1970.
In his early years in Postville he organized a Boy Scout Troup (sic) and was president of the Commercial Club. Many of the public buildings such as the hospital, churches and bank display woodworking items he built.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a son, Richard.
Surviving are a son, James of Iowa City; a daughter, Mrs. Keith (Joan) Irwin of St. Petersburg, Fl; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters; Mrs. J. E. (Arlene) Griller of Minneapolis and Mrs. E. L. (Evon) Wilson of Excelsior Springs, Mo.
