Estherr M. Kubitz, 90, formerly of 172 Golfview Dr., North Liberty, died of heart failure Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Heritage Nursing & Rehabilitation Clinic, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, by Pastor Brad Sherman. Burial: Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Solid Rock Christian Church in Coralville.
Esther was born Feb. 25, 1913, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Henry and Nellie Baczkowski. Esther married Edward Kubitz on April 25, 1935, in Chicago.
She was a self-taught artist. Painting with oil was her favorite. She painted landscapes, still life and portraits. Esther also enjoyed sculpting. She attended classes at the Chicago Art Institute.
Esther moved to the Iowa Ctiy area in 1981 after living in Little Rock, Ark., in the early 1970's. She moved briefly to Gainsville, Fla, in 1986, returning to North Liberty in 1992. She was a member of Solid Rock Christian Church in Coralville.
She is survived by a son, Edward "Babe" Kubitz and wife Genyth of Little Rock; a daughter, Joyce McCann and husband Steve of North Liberty; 10 grandchildren, Molly Daugherty and husband Chad, Genyth Thomas and husband Michael, Ed Kubitz and wife Donna, Julie Johnson and husband Bob, Andrea Marello, Daryl Fallon and husband Bob, Jennifer Stango and husband Michael, Jonene Jaynes and husband Rob. Peter Kubitz and wife Christine and Lourie Kubitz; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents: her husband; a son, Preston; a daughter, Arline; and three brothers, George, Emil and Ed "Sandy" Baczkowski.
