ZANA KACZMARSKI

Zana Kaczmarski, 85, Pettibone, N. D., one of the state's most popular artists, died Thursday. No funeral services are planned.

Zana Gordon was born Oct. 24, 1903, in Postville, Iowa, where she grew up and attended school. She married Joseph Kaczmarski June 23, 1924, in Waukon, Iowa, where they lived for a short time before moving to Pettibone in 1925. He died in 1968.

A self-taught artist, she was known professionally simply as Zana and in a recent interview noted she has paintings in every state in the nation as well as five foreign countries. She said she completed about four paintings a week and estimated the total at about 6,000 in a career that spanned the last 30 years.

She is survived by a son, Charles, Pettibone; two daughters, Jan (Mrs. Irvin) Torgeson and Carol ( Mrs. Lyle) Thorsten, both Pettibone; 12 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
