Mrs. ALPHONSE (Regina Steele) KANE 1895-1950

Former Postville Lady Passes On At Dubuque

Mrs. Alphonse C. Kane, 54, the former Regina Steele of Postville, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque last Wednesday following a three months' illness.

Funeral services were held Friday morning in the Church of the Nativity in Dubuque, and burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Those from Postville attending the services were James W. Steele, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph B. Steele, Mr. and Mrs. Henry V. Steele, Mr. and Mrs. Ed McNeil, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McNeil, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Horgan, Mr. and Mrs. Neiling Thoma, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Abernethy and Mrs. Christine Meier.

Mrs. Kane was born at Postville May 2, 1895, as the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Steel (sic). She received her early education here and on September 13, 1916, was married to Alphonse Kane of Dubuque in St. Bridget's Catholic church in this city. The family home was then established in Waterloo. They moved to Dubuque 22 years ago.

Surviving her in addition to her husband are a daughter, Mrs. James J. (Margaret Mary) Gallagher; three sons, Allen C., Joe F., and John J. Kane, and three grandchildren, all of Dubuque; and three brothers, Frank J. Steele of Marengo, James W. Steele and Henry V. Steele of Postville. Her parents and nine brothers and sisters preceded her in death. The deceased brothers and sisters are John, Joe, Dan, Rev. Fred, Mrs. Christine McNeil, Mrs. Margaret Blaser, William, Mary and Kathryn, the latter three passing away in infancy.
