Zita Gavin, age 87, of Harpers Ferry, died Sunday, November 2, 2003, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 5 at St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry with Fr. Louis Trzil officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Paint Rock. Zita M. Gavin was born April 25, 1916, in Harpers Ferry, the daughter of Martin and Agnas Conway. On June 15, 1942, she married Clarence M. Gavin at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry. Zita enjoyed traveling, being involved in nursing home outreach, teaching CCD, making pies and cinnamon rolls, and playing cards. Survivors include seven children, Regina Duss of Bloomington, Minn., Michael Gavin of Fayetteville, N.C., Jeanette Busch of St. Cloud, Minn., Rita Wieskamp Fuquay of Varina, N.C., Donald Gavin of Harpers Ferry, Raymond Gavin of Fayette, and Linda Matthiesen of Fayette; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Sara Wilkins of Lansing, Marcella Strub of New Albin, and Agnas Baum of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband and five siblings, Ellen Hawes, Celia Delaney, Mary Evans, Peter Conway, and Leo Conway.Casketbearers were Pat Delaney, Pat Cota, Chuck Cota, Rich Schulte, John Gavin, and Paul Baum.
