Viette Englehorn, age 94, of Lansing, died Friday, November 7, 2003, at Thornton Manor Nursing Home in Lansing. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at the United Methodist Church in Lansing with Rev. Keith Putney officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at the church. Selma Viette Oletha Steiber was born November 29, 1908, at the home of her parents in Lafayette Township, Allamakee County, Iowa, the second child of Fred and Selma (Dee) Steiber. She attended Lafayette Township school, graduated from Lansing High School in 1926, and spent one term at Iowa State Teachers College. She began her teaching at Lafayette Township school. She later taught at Center Township school before teaching fourth grade at Lansing Elementary after the closing of the country schools. She continued her education evenings and summers and graduated with a B.A. degree from Upper Iowa University. She retired after teaching two generations of fourth graders. Viette married Harold Englehorn February 7, 1928. They were the first couple to be married in the Calvary Evangelical Church in Lansing. Viette is survived by four children, Elinor Meyer of San Antonio, Texas, Carol (Kenneth) MacDonald of Waterloo, Gary (Meg) Englehorn of Naperville, Ill., and Ruth (Richard) Clauson of Carpentersville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Muriel Cooper of Waukon; Edith Paugh of Mesa, Ariz., and Bernard (Betty) Steiber of Lansing.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, John and his wife Nancy; a grandson, Mark Clauson; a son-in-law, Leo Meyer; and six siblings, Vera Prouty, Myrtle Mathis, Bernice Reinhardt, Nelvin Steiber, Cyril Steiber, and Frederick Steiber.
