Funeral services for Stanley Berg were held Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at the Frankville Community Presbyterian Church, Frankville. The Reverend James Walker officiated. Special music was provided by soloist Karla Johnson and organist Darlene Winkie. Casketbearers were Clinton Berg, Darwin Johnson, Randy Bloxham, Virgil Johnson, Kevin Johnson, and Jim Johnson. Honorary casketbearers were the past and present members of the Frankville Fire Department
Stanley Harold Berg was born June 18, 1926, to Alfred and Olga (Hanson) Berg in Franklin Township, Allamakee County, north of Luana. He passed away, Friday, October 31, 2003, in the Veterans Affairs Hospital at Knoxville, Iowa, at the age of 77 years. He received his education in the Little Red School House near Forest Mills in Allamakee County. Stanley was baptized in the Forest Mills Church by the Reverend Krippen. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On January 22, 1947, Stanley married Delores Esther Johnson in the Lutheran Parsonage at Monona. To this marriage six sons were born. They farmed in the Forest Mills area as well as in Allamakee and Winneshiek counties. They moved to Frankville in 1962, and Stanley began a milk route, picking up milk in cans from the local farmers and taking the milk to the Ludlow Creamery. Following the sale of the milk route, he operated Berg's Texaco Station and a backhoe business in Frankville. He had also been employed as a meat cutter by the Hygrade Packing Plant in Postville. He had been employed by CamCar in Decorah, retiring in 1988.
Stanley was a member of the Frankville Fire Department for 32 years, serving two terms as Fire Chief. He enjoyed the outdoors as well as camping and fishing with his family. Stanley and Delores enjoyed dancing to the music of their favorite band, The Toe Tappers. He also liked to work with wood and made small pieces of furniture as well as other items. Stanley will be remembered for his great sense of humor and joking with his family and friends. Stanley was a member of the Frankville Community Presbyterian Church and the Arthur F. Brandt American Legion Post of Postville. He is survived by five sons, Ronald Berg of Anamosa, David Berg of LaCrosse, Wis., Charles Berg and wife Jan of Castalia, Douglas (Teresa) Berg, and Darin Berg, all of Frankville; nine grandchildren, Tracy (John) Hjelle, Aaron Berg, Jason Berg, Kyle Berg, Kayla Berg, Kollin Berg, Kori Berg, Benji Berg, and Zachary Berg; and one great-grandson, Joseph John Hjelle. Also surviving are one brother, Leo (Jean) Berg of Decorah; three sisters-in-law, Bonnie Berg of Cassville, Mo., and Norma Bloxham and Dorothy (Gary) Gress, all of Waukon; six brothers-in-law, Roger (Norma) Johnson, Dale (Beverly) Johnson, Dean (Delores) Johnson, all of Waukon, LaVern (Jeanette) Johnson of Postville, Dwayne (Linda) Johnson, and Keith (Darlene) Johnson, all of Elgin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; his parents; a son, Terry LaVern, who died in infancy; an infant grandson, Adam; a brother, Orlan Berg; a sister-in-law, Marnetta Snitker; and a brother-in-law, Marland "Bud" Johnson.©Waukon Standard 2003
