Obituary: Republican Standard Dec. 3, 1963

Paul F. Dravis, retired Waukon businessman, died following a heart attack suffered while driving near Waukon Thursday, Nov. 28.

He was born in Allamakee county Sept. 2, 1880, a son of Carl and Hermina Rumph Dravis. He lived in Allamakee county and Waukon all of his life and was educated in the local schools. January 1, 1907 he married Lydia Elliker in Marengo. She preceded him in death Feb. 18, 1962.

March 5, 1905, he opened a grocery store in Waukon and later operated grocery stores in Rossville, Postville and New Hampton. He also built a warehouse in 1928 in Waukon.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Gertrude) Hefty of La Crosse, Wis, three grand children and two great grandchildren. A son, Calvin died September 7, 1940.

Mr. Dravis was a member of Zion Reformed United Church of Christ and a member of the Veterans Memorial Hospital city board.

He was a member of the old Waukon Independent school board and served as board president for two terms.

Funeral services were held Saturday Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. in Zion Reformed United Church of Christ with the Rev. Walter Clausing officiating. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.

Pall bearers were Everett Leas, Lawrence Ricker, Earl Stock, Carl Groezinger, Thomas Roe, and Gilman Hanson. Martin Brothers were in charge of the arrangements.
