SUDDEN DEATH OF PROMINENT FARMER Waukon Republican 1926

John Stock, prominent Jefferson township farmer, succumbed to a heart attack at his home Monday afternoon, his death coming suddenly while attempting to release a horse from a wire entanglement. Overexertion in hurrying across the field to release the horse is believed to have brought on the attack. News of his death was a sad shock to relatives and friends, many of whom had talked with him only a few hours before as he had been in town just before noon and his death occurred about 1:30 p.m. His daughter, Miss Lydia Stock, had called to him and told him of the predicament the horse was in and she watched him as he crossed the field hurriedly and began trying to release the animal. She saw him suddenly fall over onto the ground and hurrying to his side found him lifeless. A physician was summoned from Waukon, although it was evident such aid would be fruitless. No marks were found upon the body to indicate the horse had struck him and it is the doctor's judgment that death was due to the heart attack alone, he having been subject to such attacks during a period of impaired health of late.
Deceased was a lifelong resident of Allamakee county, having been born in Ludlow township on August 2, 1859. He would have been 67 years of age had he lived until the 2nd of next month. About thirty-six years ago he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Dravis, a sister of Paul and Henry Dravis of this city. To this union one daughter was born, Miss Lydia Stock, who with her mother survive to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. Mrs. and Mrs. Stock had resided on the same farm in Jefferson township ever since their marriage, Mrs. Stock having purchased the farm over 40 years ago.
Three sisters of deceased preceded him in death, Mrs. Mary Krueger, Mrs. Sophia Kugel, and Miss Sarah. The surviving brothers and sisters are: Mrs Minnie Grotegut, Mrs. Matilda Hermeier, Mrs. Lena Dravis, Mrs. Martha Pausch, Mrs. Charles Pausch, Mrs. Lydia Adams, and Fred, Charles, Ed, and Will, all residing in Ludlow township except Will who lives at Lincoln, Neb.
Funeral service will be held this Wednesday afternoon at on o'clock from the home to the Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. Krebs, and burial will follow in Oakland cemetery.
